This is a new feature I am going to be testing with my blog given my love of music and the emotional connection it has to my life and work. In my personal and professional opinion, great songwriters are like poets who offer insight into the human experience and reflect back what they are sensing, feeling and seeing at any given point in time.
I have always been a fan of Pearl Jam especially when they slow it down and get reflective. Eddie Vedder is certainly a deep songwriter who often has something powerful to say. His voice is full of depth and a sense of world weariness that makes you want to listen and pay attention to the message. This song to me is all about understanding that life is short and that you should count your blessings. It’s also important to cherish the people closest to you and to enjoy the small quiet moments with them. And, with the right people it’s okay to be vulnerable and let down your guard and be your true self.
